Privacy policy
GibberFlip is a game about saying silly things into your phone. Here’s exactly what happens to those silly things. Short version: your voice stays on your phone.
The short version
- Your recordings are flipped and scored on your device. They are never uploaded.
- There’s no account to make. We don’t ask for your name, email or age.
- Test (TestFlight) versions send us anonymous gameplay numbers, like scores and your 👍 or 👎, to make scoring fairer. No audio, nothing that identifies you, deleted after 180 days.
- There are no ads and no real purchases in the current version. Ads and purchases will come later, and we’ll update this page first.
- If a future version changes any of this, we’ll update this page and tell you in the app first.
Who we are
GibberFlip is made by an independent small team in the United States. When this policy says “we” or “us”, that’s us. You can reach us at hello@gibberflip.com.
Your microphone and your recordings
GibberFlip asks to use your microphone so you can record your attempts. It only listens while you hold the record button. If you say no, you can still look around the app; you just can’t record. You can change your mind any time in your phone’s Settings.
When you record, the app turns your take the right way round and scores it, all on your phone. Recordings are never uploaded: they aren’t sent to us or to anyone else, in the test version or the App Store version.
Beta testing (TestFlight)
While GibberFlip is in testing, the test version you get through Apple’s TestFlight sends us anonymous gameplay numbers so we can make the scoring fairer. For each try, and each time you answer “fair score?” with 👍 / 👎 or tap “That was right!”, it sends:
- the score, the stars and whether you passed;
- the scoring measurements behind that decision (how closely your take matched, and the loudness and length checks that decide whether a take was too quiet, noisy or short);
- your 👍 / 👎 or “That was right!” answer;
- which pack, level and phrase you played (by number, not the words) and the speed you chose;
- the app version and build, your phone model (such as iPhone 15) and its iOS version;
- a random ID the app makes when it’s first opened. It isn’t linked to you, your Apple ID or your phone, and reinstalling the app makes a new one.
It never sends your recordings or any audio, your name, email, Apple ID, advertising ID, contacts or location. Cloudflare, which runs our server, sees your IP address to deliver each upload (as with any web request), but we don’t store it.
The data is stored on Cloudflare in a database only our team can read, used only to tune the scoring, and deleted automatically 180 days after it arrives. We don’t sell it or share it with anyone. Because it isn’t linked to you, we can’t pick out your records, but you can stop it at any time by deleting the test app. The App Store version never sends any of this.
TestFlight itself is run by Apple. Apple shares some testing information with us, such as the name and email address you were invited with, when you installed and used the test app, crash reports, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send through TestFlight. That’s covered by Apple’s privacy policy, and we use it only to run the beta.
Ads (not in the app yet)
The current version of GibberFlip has no ads, and nothing in it collects data for advertising.
When the game launches, we plan for free players to see short ads between levels. Never while you’re playing, recording or hearing a result. A one-time “Remove Ads” purchase would turn them off for good. We expect to use Google AdMob, which may collect information about your device (such as an advertising identifier, IP address and how you interact with ads) to show and measure ads. We’d only show personalised ads if you allow it: on iPhone through Apple’s tracking prompt, and where the law requires it, through a consent message. Otherwise you’d see non-personalised ads.
Before ads arrive, we’ll update this section with the details and a link to the ad provider’s privacy policy.
What we don’t collect
We don’t collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or location, and there’s no account to make. The app has no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools. The only data it sends anywhere is the anonymous gameplay data described under Beta testing, and only in test versions.
What stays on your device
Your progress (levels, stars), your settings (like sound on or off) and a note of which packs you’ve unlocked are saved on your phone so the game remembers where you got to. If you delete the app, they’re deleted too. Your phone’s own backups (such as iCloud or Google backups) may include this data, under Apple’s or Google’s privacy terms.
Purchases
There are no real purchases in the test version. Its in-app shop is a pretend one for testing, and no money changes hands.
When the game launches, it will be free to download. Extra phrase packs and “Remove Ads” will be one-time purchases, with no subscriptions. Payments will be handled entirely by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google). We won’t see or store your card details. The store tells the app what you’ve bought so it can unlock it, and “Restore purchases” asks the store again. We may use a purchase-management service to keep track of what you’ve bought; if we do, we’ll name it here before it’s used.
If you email us
If you write to us (for help, or to join the beta), we use your email address only to reply to you and, if you asked, to invite you to test the app through TestFlight (Apple sends the invitation). We don’t sell it, share it or add you to a mailing list you didn’t ask for. Ask us to delete your emails at any time.
Children
GibberFlip is made to be fun for all ages. There’s no account, and we don’t collect personal information from anyone, children included. The anonymous gameplay data that test versions send contains nothing that identifies a child (or anyone else). If you’re a parent or guardian and have a question, email us at hello@gibberflip.com.
Things that might come later
We’re planning some features that would change how data is handled. None of them are in the current version.
- Ads for free players, as described under Ads.
- Party rooms. To let friends hear each other’s attempts on their own phones, short audio clips (a few seconds each) would be sent through our server to the other players in the room, and deleted automatically within 24 hours.
- Sharing a clip. We might let you save or share a video of a funny attempt. That would only ever happen when you choose to share it.
Before any of these ship, we’ll update this policy and let you know in the app.
This website
gibberflip.com doesn’t use cookies, analytics or trackers, and it doesn’t load anything from other companies. It’s hosted by Cloudflare, which processes basic technical information (such as your IP address) to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
Your choices and rights
You’re in control: you can turn the microphone off in Settings, and deleting the app deletes your progress and stops a test version sending gameplay data. If you’ve emailed us and want those emails deleted, or have any other privacy question, write to hello@gibberflip.com.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. For bigger changes, we’ll tell you in the app.
